About Adaptive Sports
The City is committed to provide access and support to ensure that children and adults with cognitive and physical disabilities have opportunities for recreation and sports experiences. The Department promotes participation by providing inclusive recreational activities by accommodating individuals with disabilities upon request or offers adaptive programs designed specifically for people with disabilities.
The Department in partnership with Kern County Tennis Association (K.C.T.A.) is offering a tennis program for individuals with disabilities. Experienced coaches will teach the skills and joy of the game.
Adaptive Ice Skating Sessions
The Ice Sports Center and the Department of Recreation and Parks offer a unique ice skating experience for individuals with physical and developmental disabilities. Sessions are held at the Ice Sports Center on Saturdays from 12 to 3 p.m. for a fee of $5 (including skates).
LEAGUE OF DREAMS
The department proudly partners with community groups to offer this unique league. The league was designed to ensure that all children with disabilities have the opportunity to play. Six week leagues are offered in t-ball and basketball. Each league consists of “tryouts” (assessment by Physical or Occupational Therapists), opening day celebrations, 6 weeks of games, practices, uniforms, and individual photos. This adaptive sports league provides an experience the whole family will enjoy.
