The Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) has awarded its prestigious Distinguished Budget Presentation Award to the City for its Fiscal Year 2016-17 Adopted Budget Document. The award recognizes the City for preparing its budget document in a manner consistent with the guidelines established by the National Advisory Council on State and Local Budgeting and the GFOA’s best practices on budgeting.
The City has received this award for 17 consecutive years. Documents submitted to the GFOA's Budget Awards Program are reviewed by selected members of the GFOA professional staff and by outside reviewers with experience in public sector budgeting. Each budget document is evaluated separately by three reviewers and ranked on 27 specific criteria, grouped into four basic categories. As of the most recently completed review period, only 1,500 government agencies received this award across the United States and Canada.
