Jacquie has a hands-on form of leadership and continues to be a positive force in her community. She is known as a Patriot who loves and serves her God and Country.
Jacquie Sullivan was born in Bakersfield and is the mother of four children.
Jacquie was in the real estate business from 1979 to 2005, and she had the opportunity to invest in rental property. She now manages her own rental business.
In 1995, Jacquie was first elected to the Bakersfield City Council. She feels privileged to have supported 20 years of the most quality growth and amenities in Bakersfield history.
In early 2001, while listening to the local Christian radio station, Jacquie heard on the news that there was a small group, back east, protesting that IN GOD WE TRUST was displayed on a public building. She thought, “They are working to take down our motto, I will work to put it up,” and so she did! On 2/20/2002, Jacquie led the Bakersfield City Council to “Vote Yes” to proudly and prominently display the national motto, IN GOD WE TRUST, in thelr City Council Chambers, at City Hall. Jacquie considers this to be one her most important accomplishment since she has been in elected office.
In 2004, Councilmember Sullivan organized IN GOD WE TRUST-AMERICA, INC., a non-profit organization. THE MISSION is to encourage other elected officials in cities and counties across America to follow Bakersfield's lead and legally display IN GOD WE TRUST. The number of Victories, across the country, continue to grow.
In addition to Jacquie’s contribution in political office and community involvement, she is also committed to AIDS education. Her motivation stems from the tragic AIDS-related death of her daughter, Joyce, in 1993. She is a frequent speaker at school assemblies and civic groups in her efforts to promote AIDS prevention and awareness.
*Jacquie Sullivan is passionate about Bakersfield and City Government and looks forward to beginning a new term.
