The Water Resources Department oversees the divisions of Agricultural Water and Domestic Water. The Agricultural Division manages the City’s Kern River water rights for the benefit of all current and future citizens of Bakersfield. In addition, the Agricultural Division provides for the regulation, distribution, water banking and record keeping operations on the Kern River. The Domestic Water division oversees and administers the City’s domestic water system that provide drinking water to over 143,000 residents and local businesses in Bakersfield.

Notice of Public Hearing on Proposed Increases to City Domestic Water Rates
At the City Council Meeting held on Wednesday, July 19, 2017 staff provided a workshop discussing the proposed water rate increases to fund the initial capital requirements of the TCP treatment project. The proposed rate increases of 16%, 13% and 7.6% were generated from a Water Rate Study conducted by Stantec Consultants, who specialize in conducting water rate studies. The Rate Study Report is attached for your review and information. This report will also be made available for public review in the City Clerk’s office and Water Resources Department.
