Recreation & Parks Department

Director's Message

From very hot summer days to cooler, longer fall nights, there is something for everyone in this brochure. After school programs, year round aquatics, youth sports, and adult fitness activities throughout the City of Bakersfield.

The parks are greener than they have been in a long time so set a goal with your family to explore a different park each week. Challenge your friends to get outside and traverse the Kern River Parkway: all 32 miles of paved trails without motor vehicles. Try pickleball, disc golf or one of the exercise stations in various city parks.

If you need a location for a family gathering or a class reunion, call the Department of Recreation & Parks for suggestions. Watch for new park developments on the web page and Facebook; staff is constantly adding new programs and service to enhance the quality of life in Bakersfield.
