  • City Attorney
    The City Attorney’s Office Represents the City in legal proceedings, both as plaintiff and defendant, provides advice or written opinions to all City departments, makes recommendations to City Council for or against the settlement or dismissal of legal proceedings and approves as to form all bonds, contracts and ordinances.
  • City Clerk
    The City Clerk's Office is the local official who administers democratic processes such as elections, access to city records, and all legislative actions ensuring transparency to the public. The City Clerk acts as a compliance officer for federal, state, and local statutes including the Political Reform Act, the Brown Act, and the Public Records Act. The City Clerk manages public inquiries and relationships and arranges for ceremonial and official functions.
  • City Manager
    Under the direction of City Manager Alan Tandy, the City Manager's Office is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the City, development of the City budget and implementation of City Council goals and policies. In addition, the City Manager's Office oversees the City's Americans with Disabilities Act programs and services.
  • Community Development
    Community Development provides professional and technical services that support the development of a balanced community, the preservation of existing neighborhoods and the development of new neighborhoods in a timely and orderly manner.
  • Finance
    The Finance Department provides support to the City Council and City departments in matters relating to revenue generation, budgetary accounting and reporting, investments, business licenses and permits, purchasing, and real property management.
  • Fire
    The Mission of the Bakersfield Fire Department is to protect life, property, and the environment from harm through:Education and Prevention, Emergency Response, Planning and Training, Inter-agency Collaboration, Community Alliance.
  • Human Resources

    The Public Works Department provides quality infrastructure design, construction and inspection services; to design, install and maintain traffic control systems; to provide maintenance of street surfaces, publicly-owned facilities, and street lighting; to monitor, operate and maintain the Wastewater Treatment Plants, sanitary sewer and storm drain systems, and recycling center; to ensure an adequate inventory of safe and efficient motorized fleet, equipment and telecommunications systems; and to ensure that public inquiries are handled in a timely and professional manner.

    Recreation & Parks enhances the quality of life through a variety of programs, parks, and partnerships.
  • Risk Management
    Risk Management protects the assets of the City from potential loss by purchasing insurance, self-insuring or transferring the risk of loss to others; promote safety and well being for City employees by designing training and educational programs to reduce injuries; respond to all claims filed against the City and limit amount of loss through effective claims management.
  • Water Resources
    The Water Resources Department oversees the divisions of Agricultural Water and Domestic Water. The Agricultural Division manages the City’s Kern River water rights for the benefit of all current and future citizens of Bakersfield. In addition, the Agricultural Division provides for the regulation, distribution, water banking and record keeping operations on the Kern River. The Domestic Water division oversees and administers the City’s domestic water system that provide drinking water to over 143,000 residents and local businesses in Bakersfield.
