BFD - Maintenance Division
The Bakersfield Fire Department's Maintenance Division is responsible for station maintenance, repairs on minor tools and equipment, and hydrant service.
The Maintenance is responsible for hydrant maintenance and repair and is responsible for more than 10,000 hydrants within the city. BFD Firefighters in the field assist the Division by providing annual service to these hydrants. The Maintenance Division inspects the water system from the street to new commercial buildings, and also works closely with developers and water companies to insure consistency and use of high quality materials to meet the city's emergency water needs.
The Maintenance Division is responsible for repairing small fire equipment (i.e., handlights, nozzles, and tools), and certifies ladders and air cylinders to meet OSHA requirements, giving BFD Firefighters the safest equipment possible.
