Home Accessibility Program

What kind of work can be done under the Home Accessibility Program?
Any work that will allow a disabled person(s) increased mobility in or around their home including, but not limited to, wheelchair ramps, widening of doors, installing grab bars, etc.

How do I qualify?
First, the applicant must be a low- to moderate-income resident. A low- to moderate-income resident is defined by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) as a person earning 80% or less of the area's median income. This income level is adjusted for household size and is subject to change at the sole discretion of HUD.  Second, at least one member in the household must provide proof of being disabled. Contact us for more specific information regarding income levels.

How much work can I have done?
There is a maximum of $3,500 on a one-time basis that can be used on any one household. An evaluation by our staff will be made as to what improvements need to be done. Using this evaluation a cost estimate will be completed.

Can I choose my own contractor or do the work myself?
No, the City has a licensed contractor that has met all the City's and Federal Government's guidelines. Also, Federal regulations do not allow for someone other than a licensed contractor to complete the home access work.

How long will it take for the work to be completed?
The process should take approximately 45 days from start to finish. This time could be longer or shorter depending on the requirements of individual cases.
