Planning Commission The Planning Commission meets the 1st and 3rd Thursday of every month at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall South, 1501Truxtun Avenue, Bakersfield, California in the City Council Chambers. If the agenda warrants it, there is a pre-meeting held on Monday prior to the Thursday meeting at 12:15 p.m. This Monday meeting is for staff presentation only and no public comments are taken. All meetings are televised live on KGOV TV and streamed live from the City's website. Rebroadcasts can be seen on an alternating weekend basis with the Bakersfield City Council Meetings. Rebroadcast times are 7 p.m. Saturday, and 10 a.m. Sunday. If there is a live City Council meeting, the City Council will be shown that weekend and the Planning Commission will be shown on the next weekend. The Planning Commission is an advisory body to the City Council. It is composed of seven (7) members appointed by the Mayor and City Council. Each Councilmember nominates a resident of the City, and nominations are confirmed by the full Council. See Boards, Commissions, and Committees for current Board Members. LEGAL AUTHORITY: Municipal Code Chapter 2.28.030 TERM: Four (4) years. Appointments are made in April by the City Council. QUALIFICATIONS: Members must be residents of the City throughout their terms. DUTIES: Maintain and interpret the City's General Plan and recommend methods of implementation to the City Council. Maintain the City's zoning ordinance and make recommendations for improvements to the City Council. Review the City's Capital Improvement Plan for consistency with the General Plan. Review and approve subdivisions and parcel maps. Review and approve planned development reviews. Conduct hearings on all of the above items and on appeals of site plan reviews. MEETINGS: Meetings are held on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of every month at 5:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers City Hall, 1600 Truxtun Avenue, Bakersfield, CA.
