Board of Building
Appeals
The Board of Building Appeals is an advisory body to the City Council. It is composed of seven (7) members, nominated and appointed by the full Council.

LEGAL AUTHORITY: Municipal Code S ection 15.04.120. See City Muni Code
TERM: No terms specified. Members serve at the pleasure of Council.
QUALIFICATIONS: Members must be residents of the City throughout their terms.
Members shall be qualified by training and experience in Building construction or the building trades.
DUTIES: To resolve all questions relating to the suitability of alternate materials and methods of construction; determine reasonable interpretations of the provisions of the building and construction code. Adopt reasonable rules and regulations, consistent with the purposes of such code, for conducting its hearings and investigations; render written findings and decisions to the building director, and serve a copy on the appellant. Study and recommend to the City Council new legislation consistent with its purposes and function.
MEETINGS: Meetings are held at 1715 Chester Avenue, Development Services Building, Bakersfield. Contact the Building Division for specific meeting dates.
