Feature Story:

Westside Parkway - Allen Road Groundbreaking Ceremony

Allen Rd Groundbreaking Ceremony

The Thomas Roads Improvement Program (TRIP) hosted a groundbreaking ceremony for the Westside Parkway Allen Road Interchange. A program of noteworthy speakers for the event included Bakersfield City Manager, Alan Tandy; Mayor Havey L. Hall, retired Congressman William M. Thomas, Councilmember David Couch; Betsy Ramsey, Field Representative for Assemblyman David G Valadao; Dana Culhane-Brennan, Deputy Chief of Staff for Senator Jean Fuller; and Raul Rojas, City of Bakersfield Public Works Director.

The Westside Parkway is a high-capacity transportation facility that will ultimately extend from Truxtun Avenue near State Route 99 to Heath Road at Stockdale Highway. The Westside Parkway is funded through state and local dollars, but is administered under the Thomas Roads Improvement Program as a vital component in the regional transportation network. In conjunction with other TRIP projects, the Westside Parkway will ultimately help achieve needed east-west connectivity for both local and interregional travelers.

Allen Road

The purpose of the Allen Road Interchange is to make a connection to Allen Road and facilitate construction for the next phase of the Westside Parkway without major interruptions to traffic in the area.

This phase will construct the bridge for Allen Road to cross over the Westside Parkway as well as the Westside Parkway connecting ramps to and from the east, retaining walls and sound walls. The interchange is anticipated to take about one year to complete and is expected to be operational when the other phases of the Westside Parkway open in late 2012.
