Catastrophic Leave
Catastrophic leave benefits have been established for all City employees who have exhausted all accumulated leave rights. Catastrophic lease is an attempt to provide a portion or all of an employee's pay during the time the employee would otherwise be on medical leave of absence without pay pursuant to Bakersfield Municipal Code Section 2.84.560. Education Reimbursement Program
In an effort to encourage City employees to continue their education and thereby developing them for potential growth and advancement within the City. The City continues to experience recruitment and retention challenges in its efforts to maintain a trained workforce. The Charter of the City of Bakersfield, Section 12, authorizes the City Council to provide for salaries and related benefits for officers and employees of the City. FMLA
According to the Family/Employee Medical Leave Act, the City of Bakersfield is required to provide up to 12 weeks of unpaid, job-protected leave to all employees who have worked for the City of Bakersfield for at least 12 months, and have worked at least 1,250 hours in the 12 months preceding the leave.
California Public Employees Retirement System
CalPERS provides a variety of retirement and health benefit programs and services, and administers other programs dedicated to protecting the financial security of their members.
